Guitar Hangers 2018
For these hangers, I started
with two 1x8 4-foot pine boards, and did some Lichtenberg pyrography to create
the lightning-like burn marks. (You can
look it up, but don’t try it unless you really, really know what you’re doing.) I then used a rasp to distress the edges, and
a torch to further burn areas. After
staining, I printed music across several pieces of parchment paper (name that
tune?), and cut them into irregular pieces that would fit between the burned
areas. The edges of the paper were
burned, and then the pieces were decoupaged onto the board. Next, I drilled holes for the hanger bases,
and packed them with modeling clay to keep them from filling with clear
coat. Two-stage epoxy resin was poured
over this for the final clear coat. After that hardened, I was then able
to poke an ice pick through the clay-filled holes without the risk to the clear
coat that you’d have if you tried to drill the holes through the clear coat
from scratch. This was a gift for my
nephew, so we mounted it to the wall in his under-construction music room,
hitting studs when possible, and using hollow-wall hangers at other spots
behind the hangers. The adjustable/angled Hercules hangers were
then screwed into the pre-drilled holes.
